Does Your Business Have A USP?

For the purpose of those that don’t know what this means especially beginners, I would like to define what a USP really is. Now, what is a unique selling proposition popularly called USP?

A unique selling proposition{USP} is the unique benefits which you are willing to offer people{customers} who buy your products and services, sort of an advantage one has over his competitors. Your competitors are those that offer the same products and services as yours in the same industry.

For example, if you sell toothpaste in an area, you’ll discover that several other people are also selling the same toothpaste in that area. Those are your competitors! Got it?

It may surprise you to know that several business men and women today don’t even know what a USP is and some that know it don’t make use of it or don’t even know how to apply it in their businesses.

Many businesses have failed all because the owners can’t simply get it’s USP right! They keep changing their USP all the time. Most businesses have failed not because they don’t have quality services to offer but because they simply don’t have a USP. It’s a shame!

In a world of highly competitive marketplace, you can’t just build a business and fold your arms expecting customers to come and beg you for your services.

Not anymore! Not in a world where competitions is the order of the day, where one business is trying to beat the other to it’s game.

You must be able to entice, compel or persuade your customers to come to you and not the other person or else you’re just wasting your time! The truth is, You need a USP! Okay!

Now, I hope I’ve been able to convince and not to confuse you that you actually need a USP for your business. No matter how small or big your business is, you need a USP. You simply can’t imagine the benefits of a properly crafted USP.

A business without a USP is dead already waiting to be buried more like a “working dead”. If there’s anything like that!

How can I identify my USP?

I can’t simply answer that! Why? because USP varies from business to business and your USP can be anything but make sure it’s something that must be the following;

1. Services that put away their eyes off your competitors completely. An unbeatable offer!

2. Services that must add value to their life.

3. Services that your competitors don’t offer.

However there are two{2} key factors you must consider while crafting your own USP; You have to be daring and creative!

Like I said before that USP varies from business to business. For instance, if you’re into car services and your competitors are already offering up a discount of say %20 for every car purchased from them. You might want to offer a whooping %40 discount when people buy from you.

You might say! “I have not made a dime why am I bordering myself by offering such high discounts” but this is what makes you better off and makes people want to patronize you further even though you’re running into losses. Don’t look at these, look at the long term gain instead!

I assure you that people will rush to your company and buy from you without thinking twice to the extent that you recover those losses back! Why? because you’ve just offered them what your competitors don’t dare! That’s your USP!

That’s why you must be very daring as a business person and You’d be surprised with the number of sales you’ll make.

Another illustration is, if you’re into phones and accessories and you discover that your competitors are giving free sweets for every phones purchased from them.

You might want to give a free case for every handsets purchased from your store, you and I know that a case is of more worth to a phone user than sweet. Isn’t it? This will tremendously shoot up sales by %100! This is creativity. This is your USP!

Look at Coca-Cola for instance, a giant in the soft drink industry. The company is over 100 years and amidst stiff competitions these brand is still waxing strong because of it’s creativity, you’re likely to see people demand for a Coca-Cola these days instead of other ones.

Why? because they’ve got a USP! What’s the USP? I don’t know, go ask the founder. They wouldn’t tell you because It’s in the taste of the drink!

In summary, your USP may be the following;

Offering free consultation service.

Offering freebies.

Offering bonuses and incentives.

Offering discounts.

Offering low/affordable prices.

Offering a warranty/guarantee.

Offering excellent after sales service.

And so on and so forth…

Are you about starting up your own business? or you’ve started one already without a USP! Sit down, think and take your time in choosing one that’s applicable to your business. A USP that beats what your competitors are offering. An unbeatable USP!

What Kind Of An Enterprenuer Are You?

There are two categories of enterprenuers online, they are;

1. Those ones that love to fail

2. Those ones that hate to fail

1. Those that love to fail; Yep that’s right! These are the categories of entreprenuers who careless of how many times they’ve failed and looking ahead of what the future holds for their business.

What they have experienced in the past and present of their business don’t scare them at all because they are always looking for a way to make most of the future. They are not afraid of trying new things and also are not afraid of taking risks.

They would always feel that they are missing out on something if they haven’t tried it out. They’d careless whether it would work for them or not because they aren’t scared of trying.

I’ve learn’t to understand that these sets of enterprenuers believe in the physilosophy of life which says failures are actually a way to grow your business and mistakes are part of life lessons. So it means the more you fail, the more the lessons you learn and the more ideas you acquire for the growth of your business.

Now let’s talk about those things that an enterprenuer that loves to fail” likes doing;

a. They will always test things out

b. They are not be afraid of taking risks.

c. They will not be afraid if they traffic is not forthcoming.

d. They will not be afraid if they aren’t making money yet.

e. They will be happy if they made some losses online.

f. They like to make research/discovery on ways to better their business.

2. Enterprenuers that hate to fail; These are the sets of people that don’t fancy taking chances, they either continue to live with care because they wouldn’t want to take any form of risk whatsoever.

They prefer to invest little or nothing on their business why? because they don’t like to record losses. Hmm… Has there ever been a business without a loss? All successful businesses that we hear of today has one time or other in their history recorded stupendous losses.

The bottom line is not about recording losses but been able to manage the losses recorded and turning them into long term profits! Afterall life is all about making mistakes{failure} and learning from it.

Unlike the the first category of enterprenuer, these sets of people like to do the following;

a. They are always afraid of breaking new grounds

b. They are always afraid of making discovery/research.

c. They are always afraid of taking risk at all.

d. They get fed up once they discover that money is not forthcoming.

e. They don’t like to spend money on their business as they always see it as wasteful spending.

f. They are always looking for quicker ways to make money.

So friends, with the points of argument given above you can see that there are two sets of enterprenuers online; Those that love to fail and those that hate to fail, now it depends on where you would like to pitch your tenth. It’s your call!
